Memorial Bridge

Memorial Bridge crosses the Potomac, connecting Arlington National Cemetery and the Lincoln Memorial. This shot was taken one evening when I went out on my bicycle to shoot the monuments at sunset. On my way back over the bridge, heading home, I decided to shoot a long exposure of the Lincoln Memorial, with the lights of the street lamps and cars leading to it. Here's another shot where film picks up color better than your eyes -- notice how one of the street lamps is a different color than the others. To the eye, they all look like white light.

This was shot on a whim, but ended up being my favorite of all the shots I took that night. However, there are two minor flaws in this photo that bug me. First, the rainbow flare in the lower left part of the frame. Second, that I was not more careful to keep the sign on the rightmost streetlight from obscuring part of the Memorial. Actually, I may not have been able to avoid that second problem so easily, since there are signs on every third lamp post.

Don't ask how I ended up with one light streak outside the streetlights. It must have been a bicycle.
