Washington at 5:45 a.m.

This is a sunrise shot from the Carillion near Iwo Jima Memorial in Arlington. This is the perfect place to shoot DC sunrises, and there are a few apartment buildings nearby Fort Meyer with this fantastic view. The "bushes" on the bottom of the frame are actually treetops on the bottom of the hill.

The three buildings are, of course, the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, and the US Capitol. At the time, there was some scaffolding on the Capitol Dome that you can just make out here. A straight line through the buildings points directly east and west (the camera is facing ENE).

This shot was taken in May. In September, the sun rises directly behind these three buildings, due east. You can see a September sunrise shot from the Lincoln Memorial here.
