Santorini Lighthouse

The lighthouse at the southern tip of the island of Santorini. I saw the lighthouse marked on my map, but did not know what to expect. I knew the sun would set behind it, though, so I drove out there one afternoon. I was happy to have nice clouds for the sunset.

It was a surprisingly isolated area. Few tourists make it out of the Thira / Firostefani / Oira area. The only people there were me and a guy from New Zealand shooting with a Hassleblad. He was disappointed that the sunsets weren't as nice as they are in New Zealand. I guess I have to visit New Zealand.

A couple of things to note in this shot. First, the light blinks. I timed this shot to get the beacon while it was on. Second, the weather vane on the top is reversed for some reason (to confuse photographers, no doubt). This was definitely looking west, not east, as it would appear from the vane.
