Black-crowned Night Heron This shot is here mainly because I love the background. This was shot early one morning as the light was peeking out through the leaves behind, and the colorful point light sources look terrific out of focus. As you can see from the whitewash, this branch was a favorite perch for these birds, and its location was ideal for an unobstructed shot. I was lucky to be shooting with reknowned bird photographer Arthur Morris on this morning, and we watched as one bird after another stopped on this branch on their way up the tree -- while we were set up to shoot another location. Finally, we decided we should go down and wait by the branch, but Artie said he knew that as soon as he went, the birds would stop coming. I went down and this bird came by and let me shoot for quite some time. Artie saw this and came down, but the bird flew away and no others came. Probably the one and only time I have had better luck with birds than Artie! LENS: 500/4 | FILM: Fuji Provia 100F | EXPOSURE: f/4 at 1/?" | DATE: 04/01 |
